Bridge

Bridges

A bridge is a fixed partial denture which fills in the gap left by one or more missing teeth. This gap can cause your other teeth to shift out of place, leading to bite problems, gum disease, or TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorders. The bridge fills in the gap with a replacement tooth which is connected to two crowns on either side. The crowns are cemented to your existing teeth, serving as anchors for the bridge. Dr. Sabet offers a variety of materials for bridges, including ceramic and porcelain fused to metal. She will work with you to choose the best, most natural looking option.

Crowns

A crown is a prosthetic positioned over a weak or damaged tooth. Crowns can provide the look of a healthy tooth, protect the remaining tooth structure, and also make the tooth stronger and more durable.

Crowns are recommended for patients who have:

  • An old or damaged filling
  • A cracked tooth
  • A severely decayed tooth

Dr. Sabet uses both porcelain and metal to create crowns. Full porcelain crowns are usually recommended for front teeth, while crowns on back teeth may be made of porcelain which has been fused to metal.

Placing a Crown

This process is used for placing both crowns and bridges, which include crowns. First, Dr. Sabet shapes the tooth that will serve as the anchor for the crown. She then takes an impression of the tooth, and creates a temporary acrylic crown. In 1-2 weeks, after the permanent porcelain or porcelain/metal crown is ready, Dr. Sabet will replace the acrylic crown with the permanent crown.
